In the first-ever round of layoffs since Carol Bartz took over the reins as the Chief utive of the struggling Internet bigwig Yahoo in January, the company is planning to cut several hundred jobs, out of its present work force of 13,700 employees.
Reuters reports that according to unnamed sources familiar with the proceedings, an official announcement about a fresh round of job-cuts might come around as early as next Tuesday, when Yahoo is expected to report the financial results of the 2009 first-quarter.

The internet search giant has already estimated a 16 percent in its sales figures for the quarter to $1.53 billion.

The proposed layoff move by the Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo - which had last laid-off 1,500 employees in December – apparently is part of its ongoing endeavor to turnaround the past three-year drift towards plunging profits. The earlier parts of the attempt included an extensive internal management reshuffle by Bartz two months back, and exploration of partnerships for the revival of company’s growth.

Inside sources also say that Yahoo recently held talks with Microsoft Corp, pertaining to negotiation of an agreement involving the company’s search business!
