With job losses rampant amid the ongoing downturn, Virgin Mobile USA has come up with a one-of-its-kind program - the �Pink Slip Protection� (PSP) plan - to help subscribers who lose their jobs.

Under the recently-announced plan, quite like the offers being extended by some car-makers, Virgin Mobile � a mobile virtual network operator reselling Sprint�s airtime - intends waiving-off up to three months of charges, including taxes and surcharges, in case a subscriber becomes unemployed.

The eligibility condition for PSP is that the subscriber must be a Virgin Mobile USA customer for two successive months preceding the job loss. In addition, starting April 15, Virgin Mobile will offer an unlimited voice plan for a monthly $50 subscription, and new customers signing up for this plan will be automatically become eligible for PSP.

Divulging the reason behind the new offer, Virgin Mobile CEO, Dan Schulman, said that issues like job losses �tend to impact our prepaid base more than many wireless users, so we hope this program can offer some peace of mind to our customers.�

Undoubtedly, with the economic slowdown persisting, consumers working out ways to cut their monthly cell phone bills are looking towards prepaid wireless providers - no wonder the number of new subscribers is on the rise for companies like Virgin Mobile, MetroPCS, Cricket, and Boost Mobile!
