Federal regulators of Colorado and North Carolina have shut a bank each in the respective states, bringing the total number of banks closed in 2009 thus far to 23 - a figure dreadfully close to that of 25 bank closures in all in the year 2008! Both the recently-shut banks have been taken over by the FDIC - Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

There are divided opinions on how to resolve the healthcare problems in the United States with the insurance industry demanding and a senior Senate Democrat and a coalition of business and consumer groups promoting the idea that all Americans should be required to obtain coverage as part of a planned healthcare system overhaul, while others mooting a government sponsored program for those who have trouble buying private insurance.

LONDON (Reuters) – The World Bank announced a $50 billion program on Tuesday to counter a decline in global trade and Britain called on G20 leaders to supply "the oxygen of confidence" to drag the world economy out of recession.
Leaders of the world's largest and developing economies meet in London on Wednesday and Thursday to try to chart a way out of the worst global crisis since the 1930s, caused by a freeze in credit after bank loans went bad.

With $5.9 billion in stimulus package money ready to go, the Dept. of Defense unveiled an expenditure plan that adds up to big opportunities for small contractors. The DOD plan, which was released to Congress on March 20, outlines nearly 3,000 projects that cover a broad mix of new construction, renovations and facility upgrades at sites in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico.
